Bespoke Eco Cabins and Glamping, Designed for Stillness and Simplicity
Discover luxurious glamping in Yorkshire at The Lazy T: a small, owner-built retreat in the North York Moors near Helmsley. We—Katy and Skot—handcraft each off-grid cabin and our canvas dome to the shape of the land, using timber from our own woods and low-impact methods. You arrive down a winding track, cross the stream, and settle into a quiet, comfortable space with good beds, hot showers and a wood burner ready to light.
The Good Life
Luxury here is simple and considered. Wake to birdsong and first light through the trees; spend the day walking from the door or reading by the fire; end it under dark skies in an International Dark Sky Reserve. Come, slow down, breathe out, and let nature do the rest.
Our most spacious forest cabin, designed for unhurried days. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame trees and water, while calm, natural textures and the wood burner make evenings slow and golden. Two decks catch the light from breakfast to sunset.
Cross the little bridge and slip into stillness. Brook is a hand-built, off-grid cabin tucked in its own pocket of woodland, lit by soft mornings and the hush of the stream. Warm timber, thoughtful details, and no rush of the outside world.
A peaceful garden hideaway with every modern comfort. Step through to a west-facing deck, the stream close by and the fire pit ready for long, leisurely evenings. Inside is compact, well-equipped and beautifully simple — perfect for work, rest or both. When you want nature without compromise, choose the Cottage.
Accessible, dog-friendly luxury under canvas, set on a wide raised deck beside the water. There’s generous outdoor space, covered seating for rainy moments, and all the Lazy T comforts inside. Sleep with the sounds of the forest and wake to birdsong. If you’re craving closeness to nature with effortless ease, Creekside is yours.

A wild getaway
Off-grid doesn’t mean going without.
Each space at The Lazy T has been built with care and conscience—crafted using timber from our own land, solar-powered, and fully off-grid without compromising on comfort. Expect luxurious beds, soft linen, private flushing loos, and piping hot showers, all cleaned with zero-waste, eco-friendly products.
Wild land, rewilded life.
Years of rewilding have brought the valley back to life. You’ll be surrounded by trees, native wildflowers, birdsong, butterflies, and the peaceful presence of a truly natural landscape.
And when the sun goes down? We’re a designated International Dark Sky Reserve—one of the best places in the country to see the stars.
Discover the local area
Should you want to escape the valley whilst you’re here, the surrounding landscape is varied and breathtaking. From the rugged moorland that Emily Brontë made famous in Wuthering Heights, to our own Jurassic coastline dotted with fishing villages, cliffs and deserted beaches. Chocolate box market towns and villages so quaint, they look like film sets. Ancient, enchanting ruins drenched in history, round every corner.

Brook is much more private than what we had hoped and the surroundings are beautiful with plenty of walks straight from the door.
Katy and Skot were really helpful and have created something incredibly beautiful and unique. We can’t recommend Brook enough and would love to return.
We spent 2 nights in the secret cottage. Idyllic!
The drive in to The Lazy T through Old Byland sets the scene perfectly, partridges in abundance along the lane, in the fields, deer jumping over hedges, hares scarpering...driving through woodland and hedge lined lanes, in and amongst stunning panoramic views! Then arriving at the cabin, greeted by a tree lined pathway, inter twining tree branched forming an arch, then over the stream via a decked bridge and step up onto the spacious decking into this alluring cabin. You can see straight away Katy and Skot, our hosts, have paid so much attention to detail and put all their love into creating this cabin for all to enjoy, it is kitted out with all the comforts for a cosy weekend, surrounded by natures beautiful woodland. Waking to the sound of the stream and the birds singing, the wonderful views through the large windows and the sun streaming in through the trees.
The beds were so comfortable, plump pillows, warm duvet, opening your eyes in the morning to nature.
Sitting out on the deck at night with the fire pit, you can toast marshmallows, listening to the sound of the stream rushing by. Such an ideal location to just switch off, lay back and soak up the serenity of nature,
The Lazy T was by far the perfect choice for our stay and based between Thirsk and Helmsley, two gorgeous, quaint villages with plenty to attract anybody, great choice of pubs, restaurants, cafes, shops...but we just could not wait to get back to the cabin, to enjoy the peace and tranquility of this stunning place! We stayed for 2 nights but so wish we had more time to spend in this absolutely incredible, unique cabin and its surroundings.
Rievaulx Abbey is a must visit, approx 45minute walk away from the The Lazy T on Katy, our hosts recommendation. The walk was amazing and you can get a cuppa and cake there to spur your walk on to Helmsley, approx 2hr walk in all, possibly because we kept stopping and taking in the sights and soaking up the woodland smells.
Honestly...This place just boasts high standards in comfort, quality, perfection, cleanliness, eco friendliness! Labour of love truly stands out at every point.
Loved the filter coffee/maker touch, logs for the burner and fire pit supplied (extra to be obtained from the honesty shop if required, very short walk away from cabin), loved the eco touch of hand wash, shower gel, wash up liquid, toilet paper. Super facilities all round!
This was a perfect retreat away from our very hectic lives...just what we needed! We will 100% be back!! Hopefully this year...just to warn you in advance Katy ; ) maybe in Creekside or Beck next time, but defo stay at Brook again at some point
Thank you so much Katy for making our stay so special with your wonderful, welcoming hospitality, your kindness with the lift back to the lodge after finding us at the end of the lane after a long day trekking to Rievaulx Abbey and then into and around Helmsley, with blisters on our heels! You were a godsend. And also allowing us have a sneak preview of the other sites, (which i must add are all as wonderful) And thank you to Ava, your beautiful, adoreable daughter, in all her glitters, for being so kind letting me share the back seat with her and saying we can pick raspberries ♡.
We can not thank you enough
